Hornsey School for Girls were delighted to host the Edge Foundation today at our Speed Dating Careers Event for our Year 9 students as part of the Career Footsteps campaign. Career Footsteps is an initiative from Edge in partnership with the Education and Employers Taskforce to align volunteer professionals with schools to give advice, insight and experience to students.

All the volunteers from the scheme have entered their careers through technical or professional routes and all hold careers in a diverse range of professions including: engineers, designers, construction and roles within the hospitality and arts industries.

This thought provoking and insightful day will support our students at a key decision making time in option choices at GCSE. The invaluable career experiences shared today will ensure that our students are one step ahead when it comes to planning their future careers.

Alice Barnard, CEO of the Edge Foundation said: “Young people are desperate to get advice from employers on their future careers. Schools are under enormous pressure and struggling to deliver the quality careers guidance students need to make informed choices about their future. Getting work experience or advice from professionals has become a matter of who you know – or more accurately – who your parents know. Young people should be aware of a broad range of careers and the choice of routes available – FE, apprenticeships or university - they can take to get their dream job. Events like today not only help youngsters and their families to make these important decisions, but evidence shows it boosts pay packets 10 years down the line.”

Mrs Rahelu, Head Teacher of Hornsey School for Girls commented: “There is a wealth of fantastic industry experience that schools can engage with and we are delighted that so many have taken the time today to introduce a range of different career opportunities and ideas to our students. We know that interactions here may well change the course of our students’ futures and are delighted to host such a key event at our school. “
