To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Ulysses,Tennyson

I was delighted to meet so many of our parents and carers at the year 8 parents evening last week. Thank you to all who came up to either myself or Deputy Head Ms Rooke to share your thoughts and views. There were many very positive comments about our excellent teaching staff, and we are rightly proud of the offer we present for our students. That is not to say that we didn’t also hear the comments asking for more information, or improvements to the things we do. We are committed to working on your views, and whilst this may take some time to set up, I hope you can see that we are always open to dialogue and partnership with you further.

This week our year 9 have their options evening, where they choose the GCSE that form the basis of their next stages in education. We know this is a really anxious time for our parents as well as our students. We hope that the last months of events, including advice and guidance in core learning time, has supported students. Our curriculum is designed to offer students the best options for their future, whatever skills they might need.

We cannot predict the future (as recent events have shown us) but we do know that partnerships make a difference. Our relationship with you makes a difference both in school, and outside of school for your children. I’d like to highlight a campaign I know parents, staff and governors are involved with -  joining together to form an active voice against some of the proposed cuts that the government is planning around the fair funding formula for schools. I have watched with interest as the campaign has grown, from grassroot to national. I know many of our parents are aware of the potential impact proposals may have and are already actively involved in challenging these, through letters, or raising awareness of the ‘Fair Funding for All’ campaign. Please do take a look at information coming out from our Chair of Governors and please do see if you too can contribute. All schools need the support of its biggest stakeholders at this time.

Other things to note (as we never stand still!) we will be releasing information later this week about a forthcoming competition for all students that will be launched with one of our partnership events on the 22nd February -look out for the details #Hornseyhearsyourvoice

We look forward to seeing you at the forthcoming Options and Year 12 parents evenings as well as Meet the Governors on the 22nd February.
